The
frosty wind stinging his ears, Phileas Fogg runs through the dimly lit
streets of Warsaw, Poland. With a very angry group of Polish gangsters in
pursuit, our favorite traveler knows he cannot run forever. Turning into a dark
alley, Phileas swiftly hides behind a dumpster and looks out to see that the
men that were chasing him ran right past the alley, just as he hoped. Famished
and on the road to freezing, he knows he cannot stay here for long. Heat and
food were in dire need and contact with anyone that Phileas Fogg knew was long
out of the question. Phileas then pulls the hood of his jacket over his head
and stands up. With his eyes to the ground and determination in his blood, he
set to the streets. As our hero trudges through the snowy roads, he ends up
standing next to a large cathedral. Fascinated with the beauty of such
breathtaking architecture, Phileas cannot help but to stand there, captivated.
Just then he heard a voice beckoning from the front of the church. An elderly
woman standing on the steps shouts something in Polish and waving her arms as
if inviting him. With no other options, he decides to join her in the church. “Hello.”
Phileas says apprehensively. The woman says something in Polish that Phileas
cannot make out. They make their way to the back of the cathedral, which
Phileas notices is even more enticing on the inside. The enter what looks like
a kitchen and the woman hands Phileas a plate of what look like very large
raviolis. The woman then says, “Perogies.” Not recognizing the food and being
such a curious man, he decides to try one. The warmth of the potato and cheese filling
spreads throughout his body. “This is delicious!” Phileas exclaims. The woman
can tell he is pleased and grabs a large box filled with what Phileas presumes
to be the delicious snack he had just discovered. A noise comes from the other
rooms and the woman, panicked looking, quickly ushers Phileas out of the cathedral
sent him on his way. With the determination even stronger than before and the
box of his new favorite food in hand. Phileas Fogg was ready for his next
adventure.
